history

The diocese of Aba was established on April 2, 1990 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Praeteritis quidem from cessions of territory from the diocese of Umuahia .

The Diocese of Aba is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Owerri as a suffragan .
