Istergiesel with its district Niederröder Höhe is a district of the East Hessian city ​​of Fulda .

geography

The village is located in the south-western district of Fulda and is today a district south of the city center in the Giesel valley , which flows into the Fulda at Kohlhaus . The village is close to the old Ortweg trade route . The Niederrode district is to the north. In the east it borders on the Zell district and in the south of the district it borders on Giesel, a district of the Neuhof community . In the west to the community of Großenlüder In the north-west, the state road 3079 leads from Fulda via Giesel to Hosenfeld past Istergiesel.

Istergiesel is located in the Vogelsberg on the northeastern edge of the largest contiguous forest area in Hesse, the Gieseler Forst - the northeastern Lower Vogelsberg - west of the Fulda valley .

  • In 1333 the village was first mentioned as Uzzern Gisela . The name changed over the centuries. z. B. 1574 in Yistergeisel.
  • In 1605 there were already 16 subjects living in Eustergiesel who were listed in the Turkish tax list.
  • In 1662 the place was called Eustergiesel.
  • In 1790 he was called Eistergiesel. The current name Istergiesel was first encountered in 1811.
  • In 1799 the wayside shrine was built on Steinnellerweg.

The Catholic Church of the Birth of the Virgin was built in 1865 and expanded from 1957 to 1961 in a four-year construction phase.

In 1973 a mourning hall was added to the 1909 cemetery.

Incorporation

The agricultural village was formerly an independent municipality and was incorporated into the city of Fulda by means of state law as part of the regional reform in Hesse on August 1, 1972 with other suburban municipalities.

Mariengrotte Istergiesel

Istergiesel has the Catholic branch church of St. Mary's Birth and has been assigned to the parish of John the Baptist in Johannesberg since 2006 , a cemetery with a mourning hall and adjoining war memorial . A village community center with a fire station and a bakery as well as a Marian grotto complete the offer for the citizens. The children and young people of the village have a children's playground and a football field , which is occasionally used as a festival area at festive events of the clubs .

Istergiesel can be reached via the federal highways 27 and 254 and the highways 7 and 66 . The traffic development and connection to the regional road network takes place via the district road 102 (K 102) in the north of the village into the K 101, which leads from the state road 3079 over the L 3418 to Johannesberg and joins the federal road 254 (B 254) at Kohlhaus . On the part of the local public transport , Istergiesel is connected to the Fulda regional center with the city bus line 3 every hour.
