Münsterfeld is a local location and former barracks area in the Westend district in the East Hessian city of Fulda .

location

The Münsterfeld is about 67 hectares north of Haimbacher Straße, an arterial road in Fulda Westend . The Haderwaldsiedlung is located parallel to the Münsterfeld, also in the Westend district.

The Fulda district of Haimbach is located west of the Münsterfeld and is only separated from the Münsterfeld by the so-called Europahügel with park. In the Europaviertel, based on the time it was used as a barracks area, some streets bear US names. B. Washingtonallee.

history

In 1759 there was a clash between Prussian and Württemberg troops on the Münsterfeld , which was later referred to as the battle on the Münsterfeld .

In 1937 the Ludendorff barracks was built in Münsterfeld , which consisted of only a few buildings. With the stationing of the 81st Squadron of the US Constabulary in 1946, the barracks were renamed The Crossman Barraks . In 1951, the headquarters of the 14th US Cavalry Regiment moved to the barracks and the name was changed to Downs Barracks . After the American troops withdrew from the barracks site in 1994, the site went to the Federal Property Office . Since then, some companies have settled on the site of the former barracks. The East Hesse police headquarters have also been on the site since 2001 . German-American history is remembered in the Blackhorse Museum .

The Münsterfeld can be reached in public transport by city and regional buses. After the city buses have closed, collective call taxes ensure public transport.

Bicycle traffic and pedestrians

A combined foot and cycle path was completed to connect the Münsterfeld district with the Maberzell district.

The Münsterfeld can be reached via Haimbacher Straße.
