Christoph Maeder

Christoph Maeder (born May 20, 1956 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss sociologist .

Life

Christoph Maeder studied economics and economic sociology at the University of St. Gallen from 1985 to 1989 . He then worked there as an assistant at the sociological seminar and as a department assistant in the economics department. In 1995 he received his doctorate with an ethnographic study on the penal system. From 1996 to 2015 Maeder was a lecturer in sociology at the University of St. Gallen. From 1996 to 2000 he also worked as a lecturer and researcher at the HFS Ostschweiz and then from 2000 to 2004 as a lecturer and head of research at the University of Social Work in Rorschach . From March 2005 he was a lecturer with a focus on research at the PH Thurgau in Kreuzlingen . In 2007 he was elected head of the research department there, which he headed until the end of 2014. Maeder has been Professor of Educational Sociology at the Zurich University of Education since the beginning of 2015.

His main research interests are the sociology of knowledge , education , organization and work , ethnography and methods of qualitative social research.

From 2006 to 2009 Maeder was President of the Swiss Society for Sociology (SGS). Maeder was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Seismo Verlag in Zurich from 2010 to 2017 and Scientific Advisory Board of the Swiss Competence Center for Social Sciences FORS in Lausanne from 2008 to 2016. In June 2015 he was awarded the 1st Ethnography Prize of the University of Fulda and the DGS Section Sociology of Knowledge on the 5th Fulda Field Work Days.
