Christoph Mayer (musician)

Christoph Mayer (* 1962/1963) is a German violinist and conductor.

Life

Christoph Mayer studied violin and baroque violin at the music academies in Munich and Cologne. He was a conducting student of Bruno Weil . He played in leading German baroque orchestras such as the Musica Antiqua Köln , the Schuppanzigh Quartet and the Ensemble Musica ad Rhenum . He has given concerts as a chamber musician in the Styriarte Graz, the London Wigmore Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic and at the Schwetzingen Festival. As a specialist in historical performance practice, he leads seminars and courses. He taught at the International Handel Academy, he is a regular guest conductor with the North German Philharmonic Rostock. He gives master classes at the Glinka State Conservatory, which awarded him an honorary professorship in 2006. He is a permanent guest conductor of the city chamber orchestra Nizhny Novgorod Soloists and since 2009 artistic director of the Festival Baroque & Classic Nizhny Novgorod .
