Christoph Schönherr

Christoph Schönherr (* 1952 ) is a German composer, conductor, arranger and professor emeritus at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater .

Career

Schönherr completed his music studies in Frankfurt am Main, then he studied choral conducting with Helmuth Rilling . At the University of the Arts in Berlin he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. He worked for many years as a high school teacher with a focus on music and worked as a lecturer at the University of Duisburg from 1981 to 1990 . From 1990 to 1999 he held a part-time professorship for ensemble management at the Hamburg University of Music. Since 1999 he has held a chair for school music practice and its didactics with a focus on questions of music communication in rehearsal situations .

Focus of work

Since the mid-1970s, Schönherr has led choirs in the fields of jazz , pop and gospel , including the jazz choir of the University of Duisburg, the jazz choir of the Hamburg University of Music and is the founder and director of the classical concert choir Walddörfer Kantorei Hamburg . He is co-founder and artistic director of the International Festival Choir CHOIR at the Landesmusikakademie Ochsenhausen . He is a sought-after guest conductor and workshop leader in many European countries. Schönherr is the editor of the Jazz im Chor series and author of the manual for choir conducting Pop, Jazz, Gospel ( Schott ). He is also the arranger and composer of numerous works for jazz choir.
