Christoph Strauss (also: Christoph Straus , * around 1575 ; † 1631 ) was an Austrian composer , conductor and organist of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods .

In 1601 Christoph Strauss became cantor in St. Michael in Vienna and chamber organist with Archduke Matthias . In 1617 he was appointed court conductor. From 1619 to 1626 Strauss was Kapellmeister at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna .

His sacred compositions include polyphonic and multi-choral masses , including a requiem for choir. Although his composition was quite old-fashioned for his time, his works show that Strauss was also familiar with the latest Italian works.
