Christoph Zell

Franz Christoph Zell († 1590 ) was a book printer , publisher , letter painter and craftsman in the 16th century . In his publications the artist also called himself Christoff (el) Zell, Christoph Cel and Christoph Cella.

Live and act

Christoph Zell was a close relative of the cartographer and librarian Heinrich Zell and the theologian Matthäus Zell . Although he also tried his hand at writing, it was his work as a form cutter that made him famous. Among other things, the artist made wood engravings for Heinrich Zell's maps of Europe ( 1536 ) and Prussia ( 1542 ). In 1540 Christoph Zell published a map of the Bavarian Palatinate by Erhard Reich.
