Live and act

As a student of Sebastian Munster , nephew of the Strasbourg theologian couple Matthew Zell and Katharina Schütz cell and relative of the Nuremberg cartographer and woodcarver Christoph cell he came in 1539 with Rheticus to Frombork to Nicolaus Copernicus and supported this in the publication of the Narratio prima , which in Gdansk took place .

In 1555, Zell entered the service of Duke Albrecht of Prussia and two years later took over the post of ducal palace librarian. During his time at Königsberg Castle , Zell created a new catalog of locations.

Since he had already created a map of Europe in 1533, he created a map of Prussia in 1542 , which was based on the preparatory work of Alexander Scultetus , Copernicus and Rheticus and was published by Münster, Abraham Ortelius and Caspar Schütz . A map of Germany in four woodcuts followed in 1560 with Ein neuwe und eygentlich description of the Teutsche Land .

According to Pierre Gassendi 's biography of Copernicus from 1654, he was aware of his major work De revolutionibus orbium coelestium , published in 1543, and was an early adherent of his view of the world.
