Christoph von Schallenberg

Christoph Dietrich von Schallenberg (born January 31, 1561 at Piberstein Castle in Upper Austria , † April 25, 1597 in Vienna ) was a Protestant nobleman , civil servant and humanist poet .

The Protestant noblewoman Christoph von Schallenberg was the son of Wolf (Wolfgang) von Schallenberg and Leonore Freiin von Sprinzenstein and was born at Piberstein Castle (today the municipality of Ahorn ). He received his first training at the landscape school in Enns and Linz, after which he studied in Tübingen, Padua, Bologna and Siena. After his return in 1584 he became Archduke Matthias' stewardess .

In 1588 he married Margaretha (Marusch) Lappitz von Seisenegg, in 1594 became “ Regent of the Lower Austrian Lands ” and in 1595 commander of the Danube fleet . After his wedding, he lived at Seisenegg Castle for a while . In addition to his political activity, he wrote Latin and German occasional and mocking poems, which have been preserved in a manuscript, and combined in them neo-Latin poetry with elements of folk song.
