Christophe Point (born May 26, 1965 in Nantes ) is a former French football player and later coach .

Player career

In his youth Point played for an amateur club FC Yonnais before he was accepted into the youth team of SM Caen in 1976 at the age of eleven . He was 16 years old when he made it to the third division team for the first time during the 1981/82 season; at the age of 18 he became a regular player and in 1984 he was promoted to the second highest French division. Subsequently, the young player kept his place in a team that grew through numerous talents in the second half of the 1980s. In 1988 he made the leap into the first division with this and was able to save the club as a regular player from relegation.

Over the years, he remained loyal to the club and always had his share of the league's whereabouts until he suffered a serious knee injury in the 1991/92 season and was out for a longer period. After that, he not only managed to return to the team, but also made his debut in European competition in 1992 . In the period that followed, however, many top performers turned their backs on the club; Point, who did not come more than two missions during the 1994/95 season due to his knee problems, had to experience relegation to the second division at the end of the season. At this point he ended his professional career at the age of 30 after 172 first division games with five goals and further appearances in the second and third division, without ever changing clubs.

Coaching career

After the end of his career, the ex-professional remained loyal to Caen and directed the training of the U-15 team. In 1997 he was promoted to coach of the second team, but left the club a year later after a total of 22 years; he signed with the lower class Bayeux FC , where he worked as a player-coach until 2002. From 2002 to 2005 he was the coach of the also underclass US Avranches before he was hired as head of the youth department at the professional club CS Sedan . Within the club, he was moved to the post of coach of the second selection in 2009.
