Christopher C. Kraft
Christopher Columbus Kraft, Jr. , also Chris Kraft , (born February 28, 1924 in Phoebus , Virginia - † July 22, 2019 in Houston , Texas ) was an American aerospace engineer and NASA manager.
Life
Since 1959, Kraft has been instrumental in the preparation and management of important US space programs ( Mercury , Gemini , Apollo , Skylab , Apollo-Soyuz test project, space shuttle ). From 1972 until his retirement in 1982, he was the NASA director of the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston . He was also instrumental in shaping NASA's Mission Control. Because of this involvement, the Christopher C. Kraft Jr. Mission Control Center , also simply called Houston on radio communications , was named after him in 2011 .
