Reception and effect
Caldwell's book Reflections on the Revolution In Europe: Immigration, Islam, and the West , first published in 2009 and critically examining the strong Muslim immigration to Europe, has been an international bestseller and has also been translated into Spanish, French and Dutch. The Economist called it "an important and provocative book" and "the best contribution so far by a pessimist to Islamic immigration in Europe". In a review for a magazine published in the United Arab Emirates, the Marxist historian Perry Anderson called it "the most remarkable contribution that has ever appeared in any language on immigration in Western Europe", although he critically examined individual theses of Caldwell.
In July 2017, in a comment in the New York Times , Caldwell dealt with the suicidal German historian Rolf Peter Sieferle and his book Finis Germania , which was unanimously condemned by the features of the major German daily newspapers. For Caldwell, on the other hand, the Sieferle scandal revealed a completely different German problem: “Readers did not agree when the German literary institutions unanimously condemned Sieferle's work as a right-wing extremist treatise. They really took out their wallets and said: 'That must be the right book for me!' "For Caldwell, this is a sign that the distrust of authorities in Germany has reached a worrying level:" Possibly an American one Level."
