Christopher Prout, Baron Kingsland
Christopher James Prout, Baron Kingsland , PC ( January 1, 1942 - July 12, 2009 ) was a British Conservative Party politician and barrister .
life and career
Prout was born on January 1, 1942 to Lucy and Frank Prout. From 1966 to 1969 he worked at the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development .
In 1979 he was elected to the European Parliament . From 1987 to 1992 he was chairman of the European Democrats and from 1987 to 1994 chairman of the Tory group in the EP. He held the seat in the EP until 1994. Prout was raised to Life Peer on October 7, 1994 as Baron Kingsland , of Shrewsbury in the County of Shropshire . In the same year he was accepted into the Privy Council . In 1997 he was appointed Shadow Lord Chancellor . From 1997 until his death, he was Deputy Lieutenant for Shropshire . Since 2004 he has been chairman of the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority . Prout died of a pulmonary embolism on July 12, 2009 at the age of 67.
