Christos Pappas ( Greek Χρήστος Παππάς , * 1962 in Athens ) is a Greek politician . He is a member of the Greek party Chrysi Avgi . He has been a member of the Greek parliament since the parliamentary elections in Greece in May 2012 .

Life

In October 2012, Pappas tried with other members of the Chrysi Avgi and their supporters, together with conservative religious leaders, to storm a theatrical performance of the play Corpus Christi , which criticizes Christianity and comes from Terrence McNally , in the Hytirio Theater. During the protest, Pappas got into a police bus unhindered and freed a demonstrator who had been captured by the police himself. Pappas was then sued by the police.

In November 2012 Christos Pappas unfurled the flag of the Greek military dictatorship during a meeting of the Chrysi Avgi on the island of Crete , as evidenced by video material available to the authorities in Heraklion .

In September 2013, Pappas was arrested in the course of an investigation into Chrysi Avgi after he turned himself in to the police. The police found two pistols, a brass knuckles and an SS devotional item in his house, as well as wine bottles with a picture of Mussolini on them.

In March 2013, Pappas gathered 500 supporters of the party in front of the TV channel Mega TV to protest against the broadcast of a Turkish series on Greek Independence Day . At the end of the event, he and other MPs threw eggs and yogurt at the building and burned a Turkish flag. Pappas also urinated at the entrance of the building, the newspaper Ta Nea reported.

Party career

Pappas was put up in 2012 for the Chrysí Avgí country list.

At the end of September 2012, the initiator of what the law enforcement authorities thought was blasphemous Facebook page was arrested. The alleged blasphemer, a twenty-seven-year-old Greek, had started a website called Gerontas Pastitsios - Elder Pastitsios, a corruption of the monk Paisios, who died on July 12, 1994. Pastitsio is a popular pasta dish in Greece. The arrest was made following a request from Christos Pappas to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Citizenship. In addition to this site, Pappas had also criticized the Greek indymedia site.

Also in September 2012, Pappas sued Nikos Dendias for libel. This would have politically exploited and illegally acted the attacks of a group of thugs on an immigrant market in the small town of Mesolongi , where the member of the Chrysí Avgí, Kostas Barbarousis, was present.
