Christos Rozakis

Christos Rozakis ( Greek Χρήστος Ροζάκης ; born May 17, 1941 in Athens ) is a Greek lawyer and former Vice President of the European Court of Human Rights .

Rozakis studied law in Athens and London , at the University of Illinois and the Institute for International Studies in Geneva . From 1980 to 1986 he was Professor of International Law at the Pantion University of Athens and then Professor of International Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens .

From 1987 to 1998 he was a member of the European Commission for Human Rights . In 1996, he was briefly deputy minister for foreign affairs in the Simitis government .

From November 1, 1998 to May 17, 2011 he was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights . At times he was one of two Vice-Presidents of the Court.

His scientific publications focus on the areas of contract law, the law of the sea, human rights and Greek foreign policy, especially Greek-Turkish relations.
