Pierre-Jean Porro (born December 7, 1750 in Bagnols-en-Forêt , † May 31, 1831 in Montmorency near Paris) was a French guitarist, composer and music publisher of the classical music.

Pierre-Jean Porro (born as “Leek”) received basic musical training in Béziers . In 1783 Porro moved to Paris , where he earned his living as a guitar teacher. He began to publish the weekly “Le Journal de Guitare”, in which he published his own arrangements of works for guitar. Guitar music enjoyed great popularity in the salons of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In addition to Porro, guitarists such as Filippo Gragnani (1767-1812), Fernando Sor , Mauro Giuliani , Dionisio Aguado and Ferdinando Carulli worked in Paris between 1780 and 1820 .

The good demand prompted him to found a larger publishing house in 1786, which also operated an instrument trade. More than through his numerous own compositions, he was successful through the publication of sacred and secular works by Italian composers such as Francesco Durante , Niccolò Jommelli , Giovanni Battista Pergolesi , but also by composers of his time such as Mozart and Haydn , which he brought closer to the French audience. Porro also composed several works for the lyre guitar .
