from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Filippo Gragnani ( September 3, 1768 in Livorno - July 28, 1820 ) was an Italian composer and guitarist .

Live and act

Filippo Gragnani came from a respected family of instrument makers and musicians and was the son of Antonio Gragnani . He studied music in his hometown with Giulio Maria Lucchesi , initially violin , and later devoted himself to the guitar , with which he became known as a virtuoso .

At the beginning of the 19th century, Gragnani published works for guitar and chamber music in Milan with Ricordi and Monzino . During this time he toured Germany and settled in Paris in 1810 . Here he became a student and friend of Ferdinando Carulli , to whom he dedicated three of his guitar duets and who in return also dedicated several duets to him. 15 of Gragnani's compositions are provided with opus numbers.

Little is known about Gragnani's life after 1812. The death register of the Church of St. Martino di Salviano in Livorno, where he was also buried, records his death on July 28, 1820.
