The Christ the King statue by Pachuca de Soto ( Spanish : Cristo Rey de Pachuca ) is a 23 meter high statue of Christ on the hill of Santa Apolonia in Pachuca de Soto in the state of Hidalgo ( Mexico ).

history

When a group of miners got stuck in the elevator shaft of the Paricutín mine in 1940 because the wind could no longer move, they vowed full of fear and faith: “Christ, King, if we are saved, we will build a monument for you ! ” Since they were unharmed, they kept their promise, but only after Alfonso Ruiz Romero and a group of retired miners from Paricutín urged it in May 1980. In 1992 the construction of the monument was initiated with the help of the company "Real del Monte and Pachuca" and with the support of families and institutions.

The project manager was José Luis Lugo, assisted by Vera and C. Narvaez, and the architect was Cesar Benitez.

The sculpture is made of marble and is 33 meters high (symbolizing the 33 years that Jesus lived on earth), of which 10 meters are on the base . It stands on the top of the hill at 2662.50 meters above sea level. M. From the base of the monument, from the viewing platform, you have an excellent view of the city.
