Christ Church (Sulzbach-Rosenberg)
The Protestant Christ Church in Sulzbach-Rosenberg is located in the Sulzbach district. The two towers of the Christ Church and the Catholic Marienkirche characterize the townscape of Sulzbach next to the castle. It was built by the architect Gustav Gsaenger and is typical of the sacred architecture of so - called post - war modernism .
history
The Christ Church was built between 1955 and 1958 after the joint use of the Marienkirche ( Simultaneum ), which had existed since 1652, was dissolved.
From 1964 to 1997 the musicologist Jürgen-Peter Schindler worked as cantor and church music director at the Christ Church.
description
As a hall structure, the church has around 800 seats, including a gallery on continuous supports on the right-hand side. There is a large community hall in the basement. Externally, the church quotes the surroundings of the new town with medieval echoes.
Opposite the continuous benches in the church, which emphasize the horizontal with the gallery, the slender reinforced concrete pillars convey a strong vertical tendency.
The altar wall is dominated by a marble mosaic that extends from floor to ceiling and was designed by Angela Gsaenger, the architect's daughter. It represents the heavenly Jerusalem according to the revelation of John .
organ
The organ of the Christ Church was built in the years 1958-1960 by the organ building company Friedrich Weigle (Stuttgart-Echterdingen) with 33 stops on three manuals and pedal . In 1989, the organ building company Schmid ( Kaufbeuren ) installed the instrument in a new case and added 10 stops. In 2003 the instrument was re- intoned and expanded to include a further register, a cymbal star and a glockenspiel. Today the organ has 45 registers on three manuals and a pedal. The game actions are mechanical, the stop actions are electric.
