Julius Zacher

Ernst Julius August Zacher (born February 5, 1816 in Obernigk , Lower Silesia , † March 23, 1887 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German specialist in German . As a university professor he worked in Königsberg i. Pr. And Halle (Saale).

Career

Zacher studied Protestant theology and philology at the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelms University . He earned his studies as a private tutor . He switched to the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin and heard from Karl Lachmann and the Brothers Grimm . In 1844 he received his doctorate from the Friedrichs University in Halle . From 1847 he was employed at the University Library in Halle . In 1848 he was entrusted with cataloging the library by Karl Hartwig Gregor von Meusebach . Habilitated in Halle since 1854 , he was appointed associate professor in 1856 . In 1859 he followed the call of the Albertus University in Königsberg to her chair for German studies. He also headed the University Library in Königsberg . In 1863 he returned to Halle as a full professor .

Zacher is co-founder and editor of the magazine for German philology and the Germanist reference library .
