history

The foundation stone for the Christ Church was laid on July 3, 1955. The topping-out ceremony for the structure took place on November 2, 1957. The church was consecrated in the year of the 750th anniversary of Elsterwerda on December 3, 1961, the 1st Advent of that year. The then bishop of the Evangelical Church of the Ecclesiastical Province of Saxony Johannes Jänicke (1900–1979) consecrated the Biehla Church.

The church building, like the adjoining green area, which was created between 1960 and 1965, is now a listed building by the State of Brandenburg. Extensive renovation work is currently taking place on the church and the annex. As a result of the work, the church roof, the sanitary rooms and the community room have been renewed so far.
