The Christ Church is a Protestant church in Heilbronn , which is located at Südstraße 118. It is the church of the Evangelical Southern Congregation Heilbronn. Construction began in 1962 and replaced an older wooden church from 1925.

South church

The predecessor of the Christ Church was the south church , which was consecrated on November 15, 1925. The south church was a wooden church, which was made in a series production of the Cologne wooden structures. Although the wooden church survived the war unscathed, it had to be closed on March 6, 1960 due to dilapidation. It was canceled on May 24, 1962.

Christ Church

On November 17, 1962 the foundation stone of the Christ Church took place, whereby a cassette with a certificate was placed in the foundation stone. The document, which was written by the city missionary Döring, begins with the following words: “No one can lay any other foundation than that which is laid, which is Christ”. (1.Cor.3.11) The inscription: "Anno domini 1962" and the monogram of Christ can be seen on the foundation stone. The stone was placed on the west side of the tower so that it is clearly visible.

The church was built according to plans by the architect Walter Ruff from Stuttgart-Degerloch. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on June 1, 1963. The bells were inaugurated on June 23, 1963, and the sacred building itself on the first day of Advent in November 1963.

description

Architecture and equipment

The striking 38 meter high bell tower stands north of the church and is connected to it by a passage. On the street side facing Südstrasse in the north of the building there is a tower balcony and a tower clock below the top, the tower is crowned by a gold-colored cross.

In the church building, a dark vestibule with concrete glass windows by Gertraud Ellinger-Binder keeps the traffic noise on Südstrasse away from the church service room. The church itself is dominated by mighty brick walls and a choir wall on which the crucifixion group by Karl Hemmeter can be seen. The altar cross is illuminated indirectly through narrow rows of windows. The room, which is covered by a wooden ceiling, is further illuminated by the length of the church space along the edge of the ceiling of the side walls, to the side of the altar then vertically running lead glass colored windows by Traute Gruner , which run from the entrance and the organ gallery in the north to the south to the altar get lighter and brighter and mostly show Christian symbols such as cross, ship, seeds and fish, but also a moon rocket. The concrete glass window at the baptismal font was also designed by Traute Gruner and shows wheat grain, fish and grapevine.

organ

The organ of the Christ Church is on the left side of the organ gallery in the north of the church. It comprises 32 registers on three manuals and a pedal . From 1963 to 1965 it was made by Richard Rensch . The slider chests -instrument has mechanical play and Registertrakturen and a mechanical translator function. A cleaning out, renovation, the new console construction and the installation of a new string register in the main work, as well as the re-intonation took place from January to March 2013 by: Giengener Orgelmanufaktur Gebr. Link & organ builder Tilman Trefz.
