history

After more and more people had settled in East Memmingen in the post-war years, a community house was built in 1955 with funds from the Gustav-Adolf-Werk . Most of the Latvian-speaking Christians met there for worship. German church services were not celebrated until November 29, 1958. In 1964 the third pastor of St. Martin moved into the newly built rectory near the church. Two years later the parish became independent. The newly built church was consecrated in March 1970.

Church letter

The congregational letter Contacts of the Christ Church appears five times a year . Since the third edition in 2013, it has been 20 pages in color. It contains an editorial by the pastor, an aspect in which the pastor takes up various topics and relates them to the Christian faith. In addition, news from community life, the Albert Schweitzer day care center, the Diakonie Memmingen and the YMCA Memmingen appear . There is a preview of upcoming services and events and a review of the casualia . There are two pages of advertising to finance the community letter.

Albert Schweitzer day care center

The Christ Church in Memmingen is the sponsor of the Albert Schweitzer day care center for 100 three to six year old children in four groups. The day-care center was built in 1955 for the children of expellees from the Baltic who had settled in the east of Memming and named after the Protestant theologian , doctor , musician and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Albert Schweitzer . At that time the kindergarten only had two groups. 1995–1996 and 2005 it was expanded by two more groups. Since the government of Swabia and the city of Memmingen refused to provide financial support for the redesign of the garden in spring 2012 , the municipality had to finance the first section of the garden on its own. In 2011 a landscape architect was commissioned to draw up a plan for the new garden. At the beginning of September 2013, a nursery nearby was awarded the contract for the first construction phase, which was inaugurated on October 6th with a party. The next construction phase is to begin as soon as the municipality has the necessary capital.
