Sisterhood of Christ Bearers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sisterhood of Christ Bearers describes an evangelical community in ecumenical openness based in Bensheim (Hesse). The religious lifestyle includes celibacy for the sake of the kingdom of God, community of property and mature obedience.

history

Spiritual awakenings at the beginning of the 1960s gave rise to a binding community in Bensheim- Auerbach. In 1961, an independent sisterhood and brotherhood were formed. There are currently four sister houses in Germany with different common tasks. The order-like community without costume currently includes 43 sisters (as of 2014). Her leitmotif is "Carried by Christ - Carrying Christ".

Individual sisters work outside in their professions. Each community of sisters shapes their “monastic family life” according to their services and their environment.

spirituality

Each of the ten sister communities at home and abroad has the character of a family. The Christ the Bearer Sisters want to learn to accept and forgive one another, to practice openness and trust and to share difficulties and joy with one another.

All sisters adhere to the following principles in their actions:

Each sister community organizes the daily routine according to their tasks and living conditions. The cornerstones are:

  • daily common morning prayer,
  • Prayer for the unity of the body of Christ and prayer for one another and
  • spiritual end of the day.

Orphan service

In cooperation with the Christ Bearers, three sisters founded the Christusträger Orphan Service Association in June 1968, which is a member of the Diaconal Work of the Evangelical Church in Baden.
