The Chromatics are an American band from Portland , Oregon .

history

Chromatics was founded in 2001 in Seattle by singer Adam Miller, guitarist Devin Welch, bassist Michelle Nolan and drummer Hannah Blilie. The first releases were more likely to be post-punk . The debut album Chrome Rats vs. Basement Rutz was published in 2003.

After several line-up changes, the band consists of guitarist Miller, singer Ruth Radelet, drummer Nat Walker and multi-instrumentalist Johnny Jewel . With the release of their third album Night Drive , the band switched to the indie label Italians Do It Better . At the same time the style of the band changed to a synth-pop influenced more by Italo Disco and Dreampop .

The band became known to a larger audience in 2011 with their title Tick ​​of the Clock , a contribution to the soundtrack of the film Drive . On March 26, 2012, their fourth album Kill for Love was released .

Since November 2012, the title Tick ​​of the Clock can be heard as background music for Commerzbank's TV commercials .

An EP with seven cover versions of Cyndi Lauper's song Girls Just Wanna Have Fun was released in 2015 . One of the versions was used in the commercial for the Mango fashion chain .

In 2017 the band played their title Shadow in the 2nd episode of the third season of the television series Twin Peaks by David Lynch and Mark Frost .

As it became known in May 2017, the upcoming album Dear Tommy, announced in December 2014, was already finished when Johnny Jewel almost died on Christmas 2015 in Hawaii. After his return to California, he had the 15,000 CD and 10,000 vinyl copies that had already been produced destroyed and the songs from the album that were already available online were removed from the network. He then completely re-recorded the album, with the title and arrangement of the pieces on the album unchanged. As of June 2019, the album is still unreleased.

On August 24, 2019, Chromatics released the video of their cover version of I Want to Be Alone by Jackson C. Frank on YouTube .
