Chrys C. Caragounis ( Greek Χρήστος Γ. Καραγκούνης , * 1940 in Athens ) is a Greek-Swedish theologian and emeritus professor of New Testament exegesis at Lund University . His research on the Greek language and its diachronic connection with the language of the New Testament also identify him as a linguistically oriented Neo-Graecist .

Life

Caragounis studied theology at London University and graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Divinity with Honors. For further studies he went to the University of Uppsala and received his doctorate there in 1977 as a Sacrae Theologiae Doctor .

After a period as an assistant, Caragounis held positions as University Lecturer (both Uppsala University), Senior Lecturer ( London School of Theology ), Professor of New Testament ( Evangelische Theologische Faculteit , Leuven) and again in Sweden as Associate Professor and Professor in New Testament Exegesis (both at Lund University).

The main areas of work are Jesus and Gospel research, especially the Son of Man and the Kingdom of God ; Paul and epistolary research, especially Pauline theology and exegesis; the book of Daniel and the importance of the Greek language in all its development for the exegesis of the New Testament. Following Antonios N. Jannaris  , Caragounis represents the unity of Greek as a language that goes through different phases.
