Chryses
Chryses (Greek Χρύσης Khrýsēs ) was a priest of Apollon Smintheus in Chryse in Greek mythology .
Agamemnon took Chryses' daughter Chryseis as spoils of war during the Trojan War . Chryses begged Agamemnon to release his daughter, but Agamemnon refused. Apollo then punished the Greek army with plague and death, and Agamemnon was forced to return Chryseis. However, he asked instead for the daughter of Chryses 'brother Brises , Hippodameia, also called Briseis ("Brises' daughter"), who was awarded to Achilles as spoils of war. This led to the deep rift between Achilles and Agamemnon, the "wrath of Achilles", which is a leitmotif of the Iliad .
