Chrysolina oricalcia , also known as brown leaf beetle , discloses a beetle from the family of leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae).

features

The beetles are 6 to 9 millimeters long. The beetles have a short oval shape. The coloring is variable. The head and pronotum are usually black in color. The wing covers are usually bronze to dark blue in color. The sides of the pronotum are curved upwards. Clear rows of dots, shortened towards the back, run on the wing covers.

Similar species

• Chrysolina chalcites , found in southern and southeastern Europe.

Occurrence

The species is widespread in Europe. It is absent on the Iberian Peninsula and the Irish island .

Way of life

The beetles fly from May to October. They are often found near water in sparse forests and on the edges of forests. The forage plants of the species include meadow chervil ( Anthriscus sylvestris ), gold calf's goiter ( Chaerophyllum aureum ), common groundfish ( Aegopodium podagraria ), black poplar ( Populus nigra ) and meadow hogweed ( Heracleum sphondylium ).
