Chryston is a village in the Scottish Council Area of North Lanarkshire . It is located in the Central Belt about eight kilometers southwest of Cumbernauld and 13 km northeast of Glasgow . Bedlay Castle is located on the eastern edge of Chryston .

history

The Chryston area was inhabited as early as the Stone Age. Stone Age artefacts have been found in and around the municipality that date back to the 5th millennium BC. To be dated back. The current town was first mentioned in 1535. Over the centuries, different spellings of the place name can be found, including Chrystinsone , Criston , Crystown and Cryston . It could be derived from Christ's Town . The Free Church of Scotland has had a church building in Chryston since 1853 . In 1878 a second church was added. In 1881 there were 464 people in Chryston; 110 years later there were 3,057. By 2001, the population of Chryston had decreased to 2,653. In the 2011 census survey, there were 2805 people in Chryston.

Chryston is connected to several highways. The A80 runs right through the village and connects Glasgow city center with the east-running M73 . The M80 passes Chryston to the north. Chryston is north of a railway line that opened in the 19th century as the Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway . The nearest train station was then about three kilometers southwest in Garnkirk . It is still in operation today, but is now in the village of Stepps .
