Garnkirk is a scattered settlement in the Scottish Council Area of North Lanarkshire . It is just ten kilometers east-northeast of Glasgow city center and about 23 kilometers southwest of Falkirk . Garnkirk is connected to the trunk road network via the nearby motorways M8 , M74 and M80 . The nearest train stations are in Gartcosh and Stepps, about two kilometers away . Between 1897 and 1921 Garnkirk was the location of the Gartloch distillery , which produced grain whiskey .
