Piața Nicolae Bălcescu
The Piața Nicolae Bălcescu is a square and transport hub in the Romanian city of Timișoara . It was named after the historian, writer and revolutionary leader Nicolae Bălcescu (1819-1852). The square is located in the district of Elisabetin , of which it is the center. The most striking building on the square is the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, completed in 1919 .
At the time of the Empire of Austria the place was called Grund House Square , eponymously was formerly resident basic court . As a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, this name was translated into Hungarian : Telekház tér . As a result of the partition of the Banat , he was renamed Piața Alexandru Lahovari in 1919, Lahovari was Romanian foreign minister between 1889 and 1891. From 1947 the name changed for a short time to Piața Mareșal Tito . The Piața Nicolae Bălcescu finally got its current name in the early 1950s.
