Chuck Flores
Chuck Flores (actually Charles Walter Flores, * 5. January 1935 in Orange , California ; † 24. November 2016 ) was an American drummer of modern jazz .
Live and act
Chuck Flores studied with Shelly Manne and played with Ike Carpenter and Maynard Ferguson , 1954/55 with Woody Herman , 1954 in Paris with Cy Touff & The Third Herdsmen and with Dick Collins . After that he worked mainly freelance in California , with Bud Shank 1956, Art Pepper and other musicians from the West Coast jazz scene. In 1961 he worked for Claude Williamson , in the 1970s he was a founding member of the quartet The LA 4 (but did not take part in their later recordings) and accompanied the singer Carmen McRae on her album Great American Songbook . In 1977 he made his own album with a quintet, Drum Flower on Enja Records .
