Kenneth Paul Hammond (born August 22, 1963 in London , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . During his career he played for the Los Angeles Kings , Edmonton Oilers , New York Rangers , Toronto Maple Leafs , Boston Bruins , San Jose Sharks , Vancouver Canucks and Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League .
Career
Hammond first played four years from 1981 to 1985 at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the Eastern College Athletic Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . After an outstanding season 1984/85, in which he led the university team, which Adam Oates also belonged to, as team captain to win the national championship, he was elected to various selection teams.
In the same season he signed his first professional contract with the Los Angeles Kings , who had selected him in the eighth round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft in 147th place. During the rest of the season he came to his first three NHL appearances. The defender also spent the following three seasons in the organization of the Los Angeles Kings, but mainly played for the New Haven Nighthawks , the Kings farm team , in the American Hockey League . Following the 1987/88 season , he quickly switched to the Edmonton Oilers , New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs . However, he could not fix himself there in the regular roster of the teams, whereupon there were further changes to the Boston Bruins , San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks . Only in San Jose did he play several games, for Boston and Vancouver only one and two respectively. In the summer of 1992 he was then selected in the Expansion Draft by the newly formed Ottawa Senators , who used him in 62 games, more than ever before within one season.
The 1992/93 season with Ottawa was his last stop on an NHL team. In the following three years, the Canadian let his career in the minor leagues with the Providence Bruins and Kansas City Blades end. After the 1995/96 season he resigned from active sports.
