The Vienna tiger beetle ( Cylindera arenaria viennensis ) is a ground beetle from the family of tiger beetles .

At only 6.5 to 10.5 millimeters, the beetles are representatives of the smallest Central European species of tiger beetle. The elytra are green or copper-colored. The side margin is pale yellowish and connected with the serrated bandages. The beetles have single long white hairs in the middle of the pronotum.
Occurrence
The western Palearctic species occurs in several geographical races from the Caucasus to Asia Minor, Central Europe , Eastern Europe , on the Balkans , in Italy to south-eastern France . Primary habitats are extensive sandbanks of medium to large rivers and salt flats at inland salt areas (Lower Austria, Hungary). Occurrence also in northeastern Europe (Poland - Baltic states). There it lives on sandy and muddy bottoms. Main occurrence in Germany in secondary habitats of Eastern Germany (Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg) - there the species is to be found especially on brown coal mining areas , gravel pits and military training areas. Otherwise almost disappeared in Germany . In Central Europe only the subspecies viennensis Cabinet, 1781.
Way of life
The Vienna tiger beetle feeds on insects .
