from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cigfa , also Cigva or Kigva , is a mythical figure from the Mabinogion in the Celtic mythology of Wales .

mythology

Cigfa is in the first ( Pwyll Pendefig Dyfed , " Pwyll , Prince of Dyfed ") and third branch of the Mabinogi ( Manawydan fab Llŷr , "Manawydan, the son of Llŷr"), the wife of King Pryderi of Dyfed.

The woman he chose was Cigfa, the daughter of Gwyn Gohonwy, the son of Glowyn Wallt Lydan, the son of Casnar, Wledig, one of the noblemen of the island.

After the death of Pryderi's father Pwyll, he married his mother Rhiannon to Manawydan . But suddenly Dyfed is transformed into a barren wasteland from which all the inhabitants mysteriously disappear - only Cigfa, Pryderi, Rhiannon and Manawydan remain. On the hunt for a white boar, Pryderi and Rhiannon, who is looking for him, also disappear. Cigfa and Manawydan find the two of them in a mysterious castle, motionlessly tied to a golden bowl. They catch a mouse, which is actually the wife of one of Rhiannon's enemies, can thereby free their spouses again and save Dyfed from the bewitchment.
