Political activities

She has u. a. gave a speech in front of the Votive Church in Vienna on June 21, 2006 when President Bush was at the EU summit .

On December 28, 2006, she was arrested for blocking the road in front of the George W. Bush ranch .

At the end of May 2007 she announced in an open letter that she would resign from the Democratic Party and that she would temporarily stop her anti-war activities. She withdrew for the time being. First polls in early August 2007 showed that Sheehan could only count on 9% of the votes in the 8th constituency of California and was thus faced with a difficult challenge. Nancy Pelosi, who was re-elected over 80% in her home district in 2006, got 66% according to the poll, while the as-yet-unknown Republican challenger received 21% of the vote. 4% of voters were undecided. While Pelosi was re-elected on November 4, 2008 with 72% of the vote, Sheehan received 17%.

In 2007 she received the Thomas Merton Award for Peace and Social Justice.
