Circuit Jules Tacheny , also Circuit de Mettet , is a motorsport racing track in the town of Mettet in the province of Namur in Belgium . The route opened on March 12, 2010. In order to promote the Charleroi region economically, the circuit was largely financed by public funds from the Walloon government. The Circuit Jules Techeny is the third remaining permanent race track in Belgium - next to Spa-Francorchamps and Zolder .
The route is named after the Belgian motorcycle racer Jules Tacheny , who came from Mettet and died in a traffic accident in Floreffe in 1984 .
Routing
The track is not designed for major international events such as Formula 1 or Superleague Formula , but primarily for small racing categories and training sessions. With the longest straight of only 600 meters, the route is technically demanding, as the performance of the racing cars is less important than the driving skills in the corner combinations. One of these combinations ( Schikane de Radigues ) is based on the routing of the Corkscrew curve in Laguna Seca .
history
The forerunner was a well-known street circuit in Mettet, which was the scene of various Formula 2 races in the 1950s . The winners at the time included Stirling Moss and Alberto Ascari .
