The Cirrus SR22 is a modern four-seat, single-engine light aircraft produced by the US aircraft manufacturer Cirrus Design Corporation .

development

The Cirrus Aircraft Parachute System (CAPS for short, German Cirrus Aircraft Parachute System) is triggered

The model has been available since February 2001 and is, so to speak, the "big brother" of the SR20, which has been delivered since 1999 . With this aircraft, Cirrus has set new standards in general aviation: The aircraft is largely made of fiberglass composite materials, state-of-the-art integrated avionics (since 2003 with an Electronic Flight Instrument System / "glass cockpit") and, above all, that already in the SR20 built-in total rescue system (the entire aircraft can fall to earth on a parachute in an emergency) are the outstanding features.

Major versions:

SR22-G1 (2001-2004), until 2003 only with analog instruments, from 2003 optionally with Avidyne Entegra glass cockpit.

SR22-G2 (2004–2007), with a revised hull (especially in terms of manufacturing). The lower cowling was made in two parts, which simplified maintenance work. Other innovations were a side access flap in the fuselage, which enabled access to the entire rescue system without painting work on the fuselage, new door locks and many other detail improvements. From the serial number 1663, a revised electrical system was used. "GTS" versions came fully equipped ex works (TAS traffic system, Stormscope, etc.). Air conditioning was available as an option.

SR22-G3 (2007-2013), until 2007 with Entegra avionics, from 2008 optionally with Entegra or Perspective avionics, from 2009 only with Garmin Perspective. With the help of a carbon spar that is almost 50 kg lighter (instead of fiberglass), the maximum payload increased. The V-position of the wing increased by 1 °. This made it possible to improve the handling somewhat and to dispense with the "bungee" system that had been common up until then, which combined rudder and ailerons. The G3 also has slightly larger tanks than the G2 (+11 gallons, 42 liters), and a slightly higher landing gear with a narrower track to improve the ground clearance of the propeller. The interior has been improved in details.

SR22-G5 (from 2013), equipped with a 5th seat and approx. 90 kg higher take-off weight. Because of the higher take-off weight, the parachute of the rescue system on the G5 is slightly larger. An ADS-B capable transponder became standard.

SR22-G6 (from 2017), further detail improvements. The Garmin Perspective Plus avionics system with a QWERTY keyboard for operating the FMS (Flight Management System) is being used for the first time. There are also features such as Bluetooth integration, an integrated satellite telephone, improved door locks with remote control, ambient lighting, etc. and an even more luxurious interior on request.

The SR22 (in the Nonturbo version) has a cruising speed of up to 185 knots (342 km / h). This is an outstanding achievement for an aircraft with a maintenance-friendly, rigid landing gear , which has made the SR22 the best-selling aircraft in general aviation since 2001 . The main competitors for the SR22 are the Mooney Ovation 3 / Acclaim and the Cessna Columbia 400 .

variants

The SR22-G6 version is currently available with (“T”) and without (“NA”) turbocharger. The turbo version has two exhaust gas turbochargers and a charge air cooler, which is used to maintain performance at high altitudes. Today, all SR22 are delivered exclusively with Garmin Perspective avionics, a variant of the "G1000" glass cockpit further developed by Garmin and Cirrus.

The French Air Force has ordered seven machines for the training of their navigators, which are to be operated by the CATS company. The machines are stationed in Salon-de-Provence .
