Citadel / UX is a free groupware with roots in the BBS scene. It offers functions for e-mail , contacts, calendar and tasks. Citadel / UX has been developed by a free developer community since 1994 under the GNU General Public License .

history

Citadel evolved from a bulletin board system available on Unix platforms . The original implementation dates from 1987 and ran on an Altos 586. The lead programmer of Citadel / UX was previously using Citadel-cpm and Citadel-86 and decided to start a Unix port. The original name was UNIXrooms, but was later changed to Citadel / UX. In the United States’s +1 1914 area code, dedicated to free expression, the Uncensored! BBS ”to the Citadel project Heimat.
