The Citadel Peak (English for Citadel tip is) a mountain of volcanic rock in the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . In the Queen Maud Mountains, it rises 10 km east of Mount Vaughan on the southern flank of the Vaughan Glacier . It is striking through vertical stone slabs on the summit, which are reminiscent of the fortified towers of a citadel.
The United States Geological Survey mapped it on the basis of its own measurements and aerial photographs of the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964. Participants in a campaign from 1969 to 1970 as part of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition gave it its descriptive name.
