Citizen integrator
A Citizen Integrator is an end user who - similar to a Citizen Developer - can develop software without in-depth knowledge of programming languages . In contrast to the Citizen Developer, there is a focus on the integration between front-end and back-end or different applications .
For this purpose, companies can provide their specialist users with integration platforms on which employees can access various data sources (e.g. enterprise resource planning systems such as SAP , customer relationship management systems such as Salesforce or Data Lakes ) and extract data into others Transforming formats and transferring them to other applications or data stores . Programming is done using low-code platforms .
Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) applications
- Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services ( Informatica )
- Dell Boomi ( Dell Technologies )
- Workato (workato)
- SnapLogic (SnapLogic)
- Azure Integration Services ( Microsoft )
- Anypoint (Mulesoft)
- IBM Cloud Pak for Integration ( IBM )
- WebMethods ( Software AG )
advantages
- Users from specialist departments do not have to transfer their requirements to IT departments and run the risk of a semantic gap , but can provide and use the application as a self-service
- For the success of citizen integrator projects, multi-disciplinary teams must be formed, which promotes an agile culture and digital transformation of the company
- the time-to-market of software product lines can be reduced
- Integration work can be standardized and automated within a company
Disadvantages / risks
- If citizen integrator projects are introduced without the control or guidance of an in-house competence center or center of excellence (English article), potential security , compliance , governance and technical debt risks arise
- Since there is no standardization and the market is developing rapidly, a supplier risk could arise if tactical planning is not carried out and sufficient knowledge is available to assess the market
- Citizen Integrator projects are often accompanied by unrealistic expectations. B. technological adaptations of legacy systems are not considered
