City Challenge Baku
City Challenge Baku is a race track in the capital Baku in Azerbaijan .
The 2144 meter long street circuit with twelve curves and two chicanes runs around the government building. The course is driven counter-clockwise. The track is located in the port area in Park Bulvar and is homologated by the FIA .
The course is part of the City Challenge GT racing series , an international GT racing series organized by the German organizer City Challenge GmbH, under the direction of Hartmut Beyer, based in Berlin . The number of participants in the race in Baku is limited to 30 vehicles.
The first race took place in Baku on October 26-28, 2012. The opening event with around 42,000 spectators and numerous national and international journalists was broadcast live in over 120 countries. A total of 13 teams and 24 vehicles from the brands BMW, McLaren, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Chevrolet took part. Among the well-known drivers were Bernd Schneider , Jos Verstappen , Jacques Villeneuve and Mathias Lauda , the son of the former Formula 1 world champion Niki Lauda .
In 2013 the season finale of the FIA GT series with round 12 was held in Baku in November, which Stéphane Ortelli won. In 2014, a GT series race took place in Baku from November 1st to 2nd.
