On November 22nd, 2016 it was announced that the singer Ellie Delvaux would compete under her stage name Blanche for Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev . On March 7, 2017, PIAS Belgium accidentally published the song on the Spotify streaming service , but it wasn't officially released until a day later. On March 8, 2017, the music video for City Lights was released on YouTube . With City Lights she made it to the finals of the ESC 2017, where she landed on 4th place.

Was composed City Lights by Pierre Dumoulin and Emmanuel Delcour. Pierre Dumoulin wrote the text with the interpreter, Blanche. The song is about a couple in love who have doubts as to whether their relationship will hold up. The song has a structure typical of pop music : the first verse is followed by the chorus , followed by the second verse, then the refrain again. After the second chorus, the bridge and the last chorus begin , which contains a few variations. The song is characterized by its electrical sounds and the singer's timbre .
