Meirelles and also the co-director Kátia Lund are producers together with the Brazilian television station Rede Globo . Similar to City of God , City of Men is mostly made up of young amateur actors from the slums.

action

The focus of the series is on acerola ( Douglas Silva ; cast of curls in City of God ) and laranjinha ( Darlan Cunha ). While they are around 13 years old in the first season, they are at the beginning of adult life at around 17 in the fourth and so far last season. In doing so, acerola and laranjinha go through many twists and turns, from contact with the gang crime common in the favelas to wild parties, carefree summers, annoying jobs and unwanted father joys in almost all facets of life in an extremely short period of time.

In Brazil the series had an extraordinary success. Around 35 million viewers are an absolute record on Brazilian television.

Swiss television has been broadcasting the series in two channels on SF two since March 31, 2008 . So far, none of the 19 episodes have been seen on German television. However - as of July 2014 - the first season of the series is available in the German and the original version on the video portal myvideo.de in Germany. The first three seasons are now available on DVD. The release date of the fourth and final season has not yet been set.
