Coordinates: 33 ° 2 ′  S , 137 ° 35 ′  E The Corporation of the City of Whyalla is a Local Government Area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . The area is 1033 km² and has about 22,000 inhabitants (2016).

Whyalla is located at the northeast end of the Eyre Peninsula in the north of the Spencer Gulf, about 230 kilometers as the crow flies northwest of the metropolis of Adelaide . The area includes 15 neighborhoods and towns: Backy Bay, Cowleds Landing, Douglas Point, False Bay, Fitzgerald Bay, Mullaquana, Murninnie Beach, Nonowie, Point Lowly, Tregalana, Whyalla, Whyalla Jenkins, Whyalla Norrie, Whyalla Playford and Whyalla Stuart. The council is headquartered in Whyalla on the Spencer Gulf in the center of the LGA.

The City Council of Whyalla has eleven members, the ten councilors and the chairman and mayor of the council are elected by the residents of the LGA. Whyalla is not divided into districts.
