Clarence Childs ( Clarence Chester Childs ; born July 24, 1883 in Wooster , Ohio , † September 16, 1960 in Washington, DC ) was an American hammer thrower .

At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912, he won a hammer throw with 48.17 m, the bronze medal behind his compatriot Matt McGrath (54.74 m) and the Canadian Duncan Gillis (48.39 m). He set his personal best of 52.53 m on June 12th in New York City .

Clarence Childs graduated from Yale University . From 1914 to 1916 he coached the American football team at Indiana University .
