Clash Royale is a mobile game from the Finnish game developer Supercell based on the free-to-play model. The game was released for iOS and Android in March 2016 and has been downloaded over 100 million times on Google Play . Some content and characters are based on Clash of Clans . Clash Royale won the AMD eSports Audience Award for 2017. The game is about placing units, buildings and spells in the form of cards, the rarities common, rare, epic or legendary on a playing field and using them to build opposing towers to destroy. Meanwhile you have to make do with your own resource (elixir), which is automatically generated over time. You can also speed up your progress in the game with in-app purchases.

    Goal of the game

In this game there are thirteen different arenas and a total of ten leagues that can be reached (arena 1: goblin stadium, arena 2: bones pit, arena 3: barbarian oval, arena 4: PEKKAs playground, arena 5: magic valley, arena 6: construction workers' workshop, arena 7: Royal Arena, Arena 8: Frozen Summit, Arena 9: Jungle Arena, Arena 10: Pig Mountain, Arena 11: Electric Valley, Arena 12: Haunted City, Arena 13: Legendary Arena). There is also a training camp (for the tutorial) and a special arena for clan wars and touchdown challenges. You rise or fall through trophies that are won or lost in online combat . The arenas are separated in the middle by a river or ditch, two narrow bridges in front of the princess towers are the only connections (the pig rider, the king pigs and air units can however cross the ditch). There are cards to be found in every arena. In addition, after the 13th arena (legendary arena), it continues with a total of ten leagues (Challenger 1, Challenger 2, Challenger 3, Master 1, Master 2, Master 3, Champion, Great Champion, Royal Champion, Ultimate Champion), which are activated from the cup limit of 4,000 cups. Once you have reached the limit of 4,000 trophies, it is no longer possible to drop to 3,999 trophies or less. The boundaries of these leagues are at 4,000, 4,300, 4,600, 5,000, 5,300, 5,600, 6,000, 6,300, 6,600 and 7,000 cups.

    Touchdown mode

With the October 2017 update, a new game mode, the touchdown mode, was introduced. In contrast to the normal game, there are no towers and the goal is instead to get into the opponent's end zone. If you manage to do this, the team receives one point and the game starts again until one team has 3 points or the time has run out. In this game mode, two teams of two play against each other.

    struggle

Fights are fought by two (single fights) or four (duo fights) players, each of whom has eight cards that have already been unlocked and selected by themselves in their “combat deck”. These are then fought on a playing field, but only with a few, as these can only be activated and set by self-charging elixirs. The winner of the fight is whoever destroys the opponent's king tower or who, after three minutes, has overturned more towers than the opponent. The two princess towers are activated from the beginning of the round. The King's Tower has a self-firing cannon that the King only activates when his own arena tower is destroyed or the King's Tower has suffered damage, e.g. B. by a spell such as a fireball or a missile. In the event of a tie in a game, there is one minute of extra time, for tournament fights and from the 13th (legendary) arena there is three minutes of extra time. This time is called Kronen-KO. In crown knockout, the first player to destroy an opponent's tower wins. If you win, you will receive a reward: gold, trophies, chests and crowns for the crown chest. Trophies will be deducted in the event of a defeat in a single fight In the "clan battles" or later "duo battles" available since March 2017, the game is played in mode 2 vs 2 and the winning team of two receives the number of crowns earned. After duo fights, since an update in December 2018, it has been possible to mark the player as a friend in the community.

    Chests

The following chests are available by winning battles or buying for jewels in the shop (purchased chests open immediately):

    • Free Chest: If you get a Free Chest quest, you can get this chest three times, one every day. Together with the silver chest, it is the worst chest in the game. The design is identical to that of the wooden chest.
    • Wooden chest: This chest only appears in the beginners tutorial, the fifth wooden chest also contains an epic card.
    • Crown Chest: This is obtained if you have not yet received all of the season's rewards when you have earned ten crowns in combat. The crown chest contains at least two to eight rare cards and 400–800 coins.
    • Silver chest: This is given to the player in most cases after a victory. It takes three hours to open, but contains only a few cards.
    • Gold Chest: takes eight hours to open and contains at least one to nine rare cards .
    • Giant chest: With a little luck, this can be won in battle. It is no longer available in the shop since the December update. This chest contains many common and rare cards. The opening time is 12 hours.
    • Magic Chest: This chest has not been available for purchase in the shop since the December update, but is still available in the chest cycle. The opening time is 12 hours. It contains at least between 12 and 72 rare cards and one to three epic cards.
    • Super Magic Chest: This chest no longer exists as of the December update.
    • Mega Flash Chest: It can be won with a probability of 1 in 499. It contains at least 168–248 common, 36–108 rare, and 6–24 epic cards. There are 3 to 8 flashes available to the player, with which any card that you received from the chest can be flashed. The opening time is 24 hours.
    • Epic Chest: Can be won in battle or bought in the shop through special offers. Prices vary by arena, depending on how many cards are included. This chest contains no gold, only ten to twenty epic cards, depending on the current arena. The Epic Chest takes twelve hours to open.
    • Legendary Chest: Can be won in battle or bought as a special offer in the shop for 500 gems. This chest contains only one legendary card from any arena. The legendary chests take one day (24 hours) to open.
    • League selection chest: If you are in a league at the end of the season, you get a chest depending on the league. A legendary card is guaranteed in the high leagues (from Master 2). When opening the chest you can always choose one of two proposed decks of cards.
    • Lightning Chest: Depending on the arena, you can replace up to five decks of cards.
    • Lucky Chest: Contains at least two out of four daily lucky cards. The chance of getting a Legendary Card is 10%.
    • Legendary King's Chest: The Legendary King's Chest is a selection chest (it always contains two decks of cards of the same rarity and number, and you can decide which one to take). It contains at least one legendary card. The legendary royal chest is available in the shop for 2,500 jewels.
    • Tournament chest: This chest is given as a reward for completing challenges. The more victories that have been achieved, the better the content.

The number of gold and cards in the individual chests increases per arena, with the exception of the Legendary and Epic Chests, which contain no gold. The chests are not randomly distributed; instead, there is a cycle spanning 240 chests. Gold, giant and magic chests are given out at regular intervals. Mega flash chests, epic and legendary chests are distributed randomly regardless of the cycle.

In the October 2017 update, the free chest was abolished and replaced by quests. The goal is to master various tasks for which there are points. The points are required to open a chest determined by the game. The number of points varies depending on the value of the chest, for example 50 points are required for a gold chest and 500 points for a mega lightning chest. Only one chest can be earned at a time. The quests also changed the achievements, which no longer give rewards, but still bring Google Play Games experience.

    cards

Cards have different degrees of rarity and types. There are currently 99 different cards. The cards are divided into the rarity levels common , rare , epic and legendary . Legendary cards do not appear until the fourth arena. In addition, all cards are divided into the types unit, spell and building. Common cards are, for example, the knight, the archer or the arrows. Rare cards include the Kobold Hut, the Zappys and the Musketeer. The witch, prince and baby dragon are examples of epic cards. Legendary cards are e.g. B. the fighting wood, the tunnel digger, the princess, the ice magician, the inferno dragon, the electric magician, the lumberjack, the cemetery, the funky, the lava dog, the bandit, the night witch, the fisherman, the king's spirit, the mega knight, the ram rider and the magic shooter.

The different cards can have different levels. With a higher card level, a card has - depending on its design - higher attack and / or higher defensive power. Level 13 is the highest level for any card. The card types start with the following levels: common with 1, rare with 3, epic with 6 and legendary with 9. Once a card has reached the maximum of 13, it can no longer be requested in the clan. If you still receive such a card, the cards drawn turn into gold and star points. The amount of gold is determined by the number of cards drawn and the rarity. When you have reached king level 13, you have the option of leveling cards that have also reached level 13 again, the so-called star level. The star level is leveled with star points drawn from duplicate cards. The star level only offers a cosmetic change.

    Shop

The shop is updated daily. It always contains 6 cards and four lucky cards. Every player has their own shop and there is no uniform update time. The shop is always updated at midnight in the game region. The shop can contain Common, Rare, and Epic Cards. Also Legendary Maps if the player is on over 3000 trophies at the time of update. From 4000 trophies the chance is increased that there are epic cards in the shop. On Epic Sunday, the shop contains a free Epic Card. All unlockable cards are in the shop at least once within three months.

    Tournaments and challenges

In addition to the normal public fights, there are also challenges and tournaments. In the tournaments, up to 1,000 players can fight against each other in pairings at the same time. Creating such a tournament costs the creator 10 jewels. In the challenges, the player tries to get up to 12 wins, but is only allowed to lose twice. If he loses a third game, he is eliminated from the challenge. The special thing about these fights is that the maximum card level (depending on the rarity of the card) is limited and the extension takes three minutes.

From time to time there are also various special challenges, such as: King's Cup, Double Elixir, Clan Battle, Selection Challenge, Classic Deck, Kronen KO Challenge or Collective Battle Challenge. Every Wednesday there is a challenge in which you can usually get a certain card, like the fireball in the fireball challenge, several times. When new cards are introduced, there is often a special challenge, such as the electric magician challenge or the bandit selection challenge.

There was a new duo challenge of its own for the new touchdown mode.

    party

Since the November 2019 update, there has been a party mode in which different game modes change after 48 hours. The modes duo fight , lumberjack rush and triple draft are available. You can neither win nor lose trophies, but you can win chests and victory gold.

    Clan wars

The Clan Wars are a feature that was introduced in a major update and replaces the Clan Chest. The point is to rise in a new trophy system and receive rewards in the form of chests.

    Course of a clan war

A clan war lasts for two days. After the start of the war, the day of collection begins. Now every clan member has the chance to play three collection day fights, such as a double elixir fight. These fights are played against a random clan warrior from another clan. After the fight you get a chest with clan cards. There's more in it when you've won. The clan can unlock cards or improve existing ones in its clan war card collection.

Now the day of the fight begins, in which, depending on the number of participants, you are assigned 4 further clans with an (almost) equal number of participants. Inequalities in the number of participants are balanced out by the fact that one or more random participants of a clan with fewer participants can contest two fights.

You fight the fight against another random clan war participant (who does not come from the 4 assigned clans) with the cards won during the collection days.

In the event of a victory, the clan receives a medal and a crown for each tower destroyed during the fight, which are included in the final scoring.

    Rating

At the end of the clan war, the medals of a clan are added up and the 5 participating clans are listed in a ranking list. If there is a tie for medals, the crowns count as an additional feature. Depending on the placement, the clan receives or loses clan war trophies.

    Clan War Leagues

Depending on their success and the number of trophies won in the clan wars, the clans are assigned to the following leagues:

    league From number of trophies
    Bronze I. 0
    Bronze II 200
    Bronze III 400
    Silver I. 600
    Silver II 900
    Silver III 1,200
    Gold I. 1,500
    Gold II 2,000
    Gold III 2,500
    Legendary 3,000

    War chests

Depending on which league you are in at the end of a clan war, you will receive a war chest as a reward.

    Arenas

The aim of the game is to keep advancing in the arenas. There are thirteen arenas in total.

As soon as you have advanced in the arenas, the chests contain more gold and more cards. Since an update it is no longer possible to relegate an arena. If you lose a fight while you have exactly the number of trophies necessary to reach the arena, you will not lose any trophies due to the so-called "trophy gate".

A new arena was created for touchdown mode, which is modeled on a football field. Any player can take part in the challenge, the number of trophies won is irrelevant.

    Leagues

    league trophies
    challenger I. 4000
    II 4300
    III 4600
    master I. 5000
    II 5300
    III 5600
    champion 6000
    Great champion 6300
    Royal Champion 6600
    Ultimate champion 7000

After collecting at least 4000 trophies you can reach the Legendary Arena. You can still collect trophies. This allows higher leagues to be reached (see table). In contrast to the arenas, you can relegate a league again. At the end of the season, half of the trophies that were above 4000 will be deducted. After the end of a season, you will no longer receive any special season rewards since the updates. As with reaching a new arena, reaching a new league also gives you a chest acceleration, but only once per season for a league.
