Claudine Nierth (* 1967 in Niebüll ) is a German artist and political activist .

Life and work

Since studying art (1991–1995) and working on the stage for several years ( eurythmy ), Claudine Nierth's focus has been on the artistic design of social processes. She carries out this activity as a self-employed person with employees in companies and organizations. From 2006 to 2012 she was a lecturer for the bachelor's degree at 4.D room for eurythmy training and art in Hamburg.

Political work

Claudine Nierth supported the referendum campaign in the 1980s, the first nationwide campaign for direct democracy . Since then, Nierth has been committed to the introduction and improvement of referendums and their regulations. In 1997 she was one of the three initiators of the first popular initiative More Democracy in Hamburg and in 2011 the popular initiative More Democracy in Schleswig-Holstein . In 2000 she drove the white omnibus for Direct Democracy - a rolling sculpture - across Germany. Then she wrote the introduction of the nationwide referendum on the flags.

Claudine Nierth has been the spokeswoman for the national board of the national association Mehr Demokratie eV since 1998. The parliamentary group of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Schleswig-Holstein sent her to the 15th Federal Assembly , which on March 18, 2012 elected the German President . In 2013 she was nominated for the Schleswig-Holstein Citizens' Prize in the "Everyday Heroes" category. In 2014/2015 she was a member of the study commission on strengthening democracy in Austria of the Austrian National Council.

On August 27, 2017, Claudine Nierth debated the then President of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert as part of the Ruhrtriennale 2017 at the ZEIT Forum Kultur on the subject of "End of the Elite - The New Power from Below" in the Turbine Hall of the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum . It was also about direct democracy and the introduction of nationwide referendums.

On May 22, 2018, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for her commitment by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier . The reasoning stated, among other things: “Even if direct democracy is in tension with representative democracy, the exchange about whether our country needs more referendums is always enriching. How can wise decisions be best achieved with broad participation? Claudine Nierth keeps putting this important question on the political agenda. "
