Claudio Griese

Claudio Griese (born November 28, 1973 in Hameln ) is a German politician . Since November 1st, 2014 he has been Lord Mayor of Hameln.

Career

Professional background

Griese studied law in Hanover . He completed his legal traineeship in Lower Saxony. In 2002 he passed his second state examination in law. From 2002 to 2014 he worked as a lawyer in Hameln.

Political career

In 1990 Griese joined the Junge Union . He has been a member of the CDU since 1992 ; he was involved at the local, city and district association level of the party. From 2006 to 2014 Griese was a member of the district council of the Hameln-Pyrmont district and the council of the city of Hameln. In 2007 he took over the chairmanship of the CDU parliamentary group. In 2013 he was nominated by the CDU as a candidate for the office of Lord Mayor of Hameln. In a runoff election on June 15, 2014, he received 56.7 percent of the vote. He took office on November 3, 2014. During his tenure, Griese campaigned for a consolidation of the city budget. He also initiated a fundamental redesign of the banks of the Weser in Hameln.

Memberships

Griese is a member of various supervisory boards, including the Hameln public utility, Hameln Marketing und Tourismus GmbH and the municipal housing association HWG. He is deputy chairman of the board of directors of Sparkasse Hameln-Weserbergland and chairman of the board of trustees of the Eugen Reintjes Foundation.

Personal

Griese is married and lives in the Tündern district of Hamelin .
